The Boiler Room is proud to introduce Magni Borgehed
(b. 1982) for his first solo exhibition in Norway. Since his debut in 2009 Magni Borgehed has emerged as one of the most promising conceptual painters from Sweden.
In his works Magni Borgehed has developed a sophisticated method of appropriating the repertoire of painterly gesture and reshape its post-Pollock ironic, detatched and self-referential into basic materials elements of the painting medium. Art critic Jan Verwoert describes in a catalogue essay how Borgehed »takes painting to a point where its look and its use beguin to become one. /…/ Borgehed’s paintings take you to the heart of what is common to the common: the offer of usage freed from the superstructures of norms, protocols and traditions that agglomerate around this offer, in order to impose regulations on it.«
Magni Borgehed har recently exhibited in Charlottenborg Kunsthal (Swedish Painting Now, 2013. Curated by Toves Salon), Villa Romana, Florence, (Foreign Figs For Florence, 2012. Curated by Dingum), Nässjö Konsthall (2011), Landings Project Space, Vestfossen, (2010) and Galleri Andersson/ Sandström, Umeå, (2009). He has up-coming shows at Henningsen Gallery, Copenhagen, and Växjö Konsthall.
Magni Borgehed studied at Städelschule, Frankfurt am Main, 2007-2008 and graduated in 2009 from Umeå Academy of Fine Arts (MA Fine Arts).
